What is Cymunedfa?
Cymunedfa is the Welsh word that stands for ‘Community’. Based upon the ideal of human flourishing, meaningful communities, tactical unity and self-emancipation, we have been working together inspired deeply by anarchist and socialist values, with the idea of opening a autonomous social centre.
What this looks like in practice will depend on the physical space we are able to acquire! But the types of activities we would expect to hold or host are:
- Practical and political education, discussion groups, reading groups, training and knowledge sharing that allow us to build popular power
- Resistance building and training; anti-fascist gatherings and meetings
- Breakfast/food club, community dinners, people’s kitchen
- Mutual aid projects such: activities that support needs from communities, workshops, advice, health projects, time swap…that are not centred on an economic transaction
- Music and culture – gigs, poetry, films, art
- Greening and growing, repairing and re-using
- Intergenerational spaces, spaces for children and young people, childcare
